Juara Village

Sunrise Dive Centre is located in Juara Village at Tioman island, which is situated in the South China Sea, on the east coast of the peninsular West Malaysia.

To get to Tioman Island, you will have to get to the harbour town, MERSING, easy to be reached by bus from all major towns in Malaysia. (and also directly from Singapore!) Many busses stop at a so called tourist office, “Island Connection”. Please always be aware, since they give a lot of wrong information, just to be able to sell you, their company sponsored boat ticket, and accommodation!

WHEN it is not holiday season, NOTHING is overbooked!

This is just a trick how they try to force you to buy their tickets and make bookings with them. The best thing you can do is to get a one way ticket for the boat trip.

If you do need a reliable travel agent: R.A. Agency, East Coast Hotel, Tel 077993546, 43A Abu Baker, in front of the KFC, which is 500m from the island connection office.

Than get on one of the ferries, most of them leaving Mersing around 12 o’clock noon.

There also are lots of speedboats, (departure until 17:00 pm) but when there is chance of a rough sea, we advice you to take the ferry, since the speedboats are not really sea worthy!

The boat-journey takes (both ferry and speedboat) about one hour and a half.

Once your ferry reaches the island Tioman, get off at the village TEKEK. From here you get on a four-wheel-drive car, that will take you across the island to JUARA village in 40 min.

air travellers

Tioman Island has its own airport which is in TEKEK village. There are daily flights to and from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

From the airport in TEKEK you should try to find a 4 wheel-drive car to take you across the island, to Juara Village. This car-journey takes about 40 min.

The Malaysian ringlet (RM) is the currency in Malaysia. (exchange rate january 2006: 1 Euro is about 4 RM)

- Ferry Mersing to Tioman: RM 35,00

- Speedboat Mersing to Tioman: RM 45,00

- 4-wheel-drive across the island: RM 70,00 (1 person), 2 persons: RM 35,00 each, 3 persons: RM 30,00 each, 4 persons RM 25,00 each.

- The flight to the island is around RM 200,00 one way.
